Changing perspectives: Get the big picture

To solve Asia’s water challenges it is important to have the right perspective so, this month we start with our new “at-a-glance” Big Picture infographics on Asia’s water challenges, water-nomics and water risk valuation. These include key stats from our latest report. On that note, see our recap of our public report launch at the Asia Society.

For the report launch we hosted 4 global water experts/ laureates; we made the most of having them in town by conducting interviews and gathering their thoughts, which we share below.

We start with Dr David Molden, the Director General of ICIMOD, to understand why the “Third Pole” matters for Asia’s economy and how we can protect the region better. Hear also from water expert Cecilia Tortajada from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy as she calls for action from the investment community to help tackle these challenges.

Meanwhile, China is ahead of the curve in managing water. Its improving water rights system is just one example and Professor Jia Shaofeng from the Chinese Academy of Sciences updates us on pilot project progress in the past 4 years.

Hong Kong is also doing its part in changing perspectives. While green finance has been small in HK, this is likely to change with the launch of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association. Check out more in our key takeaways from their launch.

With the new IPCC report’s stark warnings on climate change, it’s time for everyone to get the right perspectives and tackle Asia’s water challenges together.
