“We face a triple threat: not enough water, climate change & clustered assets along vulnerable rivers”

In order to make better informed decisions investors must understand what their loan books and investment portfolios are exposed to. The threat to Asia’s water force governments, especially those exposed to water stress like China, to strengthen regulations and implement water-nomic policies, which will have disruptive consequences for corporates and investors. Discover more on these in Water-nomics and Business Unusual.

We have been at the forefront of highlighting complex water risks through writing reports for financial institutions. Reports highlighting sectoral risks have either led to sell-downs of entire sector portfolios, or have been nominated for industry awards. Another report led to an invitation to join the China Green Finance Working Group on Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA), chaired by Dr. Ma Jun of the Monetary Policy Commission of the People’s Bank of China. Stay on top of sector risks in Intelligence by Sector and find out who’s disclosing what in Disclosure.

The magnitude of the risk warrants valuation, yet there is no consensus as to the methodology. Since we engage through roadshows and one-on-ones with investors who collectively have trillions of dollars in assets under management, we now work with them to build consensus toward water risk valuation.
