CWR’s Dawn McGregor will be on panel 1, “Accelerating Water Sector Action to Net Zero Emissions” of Resilient Mitigation: Water as the Key to Unlocking GHG Goals, convened by AGWA, IUCN, IWMI & WINZ at Stockholm World Water Week 2023.

The connections between water and energy have been explored to some degree through economic and planning approaches such as the water-food-energy nexus. The session – Resilient Mitigation: Water as the Key to Unlocking GHG Goals, will have three panels: Panel 1 – “Accelerating Water Sector Action to Net Zero Emissions”, Panel 2 – “Ensuring Water Resilient Mitigation Across Sectors” and Panel 3 – “Funding and Financing Pathways for Water into Mitigation”.

The three panels will approach the topic of water, carbon and energy from a climate policy and finance context, so that we can ensure that our energy and carbon sequestration transitions recognize that water resource management is a tool to help all sectors achieve climate mitigation targets. Water should be: explicitly recognized in carbon management and sequestration; considered explicitly in tradeoffs relative to other sectors; managed for uncertainty, adaptation, and resilience; and connected to WASH, agriculture, and utility operations for carbon storage and low-carbon operations.

Panel 1: “Accelerating Water Sector Action to Net Zero Emissions” will feature speakers including the International Stakeholder Engagement Lead, Water, Bayer and Senior Director, Client Sustainability, Xylem Europe.

Panel 2: “Ensuring Water Resilient Mitigation Across Sectors” will feature speakers including the Senior Advisor, SIWI, Director, Global Water Programme, IUCN, and PhD Candidate, Oregon State University & Young Scientific Programme Committee.

Panel 3: “Funding and Financing Pathways for Water into Mitigation” will feature speakers including the Water Sector Lead, Green Climate Fund, Director for Natural Capital and Climate, Asia and the Pacific, ADB and Deputy Division Chief, Economic Growth, Environment, and Agriculture, USAID Bureau for Africa.
