Unlocking Adaptation Finance & Building Climate Resilience Through Insurance

CWR’s Debra Tan will be presenting at the webinar “Unlocking Adaptation Finance & Building Climate Resilience Through Insurance” organised by HKGFA, as well as speaking on their panel.
Join us for an essential webinar on how the insurance sector can reward climate risk adaption efforts through reduced premiums for asset owners, in turn creating a collaborative and mutually beneficial gain for climate action and adaptation efforts.
As extreme weather events become increasingly severe and frequent, so too have their financial impacts. In 2024, the economic cost of weather and climate-related disasters reached an estimated US$402 billion, with insured losses exceeding US$150 billion (Gallagher Re). These losses have led to increased insurance premiums for the real estate sector in Hong Kong, as evidenced in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018 and the record-breaking Black Rainstorm in 2023. With indications that this may be the new norm, the financial impact of extreme climate related risks for asset owners AND insurers can no longer be ignored. However, in spite of the growing risks, tangible financial benefits can be achieved by rewarding robust climate adaptation strategies with lower insurance premiums.
This webinar will provide an overview of the recently launched whitepaper co-published by AXA, Link Asset Management Limited and Marsh, “Sustainability-Linked Insurance: Rewarding Climate Risk Adaptation”, and offer valuable insights into how the real estate and insurance industries can collaborate to address climate adaptation risks and simultaneously create win-win scenarios to reduce climate and financial risks.
